Known as focal which affects only one part of the body

  • Causes facial spasms and pain 
  • Mouth and jaw can be affected
  • Can affect chewing, speech or swallowing
  • Treatments such as botulinum toxin injections can reduce the contractions
  • Sensory tricks such as chewing gum can temporarily reduce symptoms
